Sydney is a very energetic young girl who loves playing with animals in her spare time. What makes Sydney unique from other girls her age, is that she has been diagnosed with a cancer known as optic nerve glioma. This type of cancer is a slow-growing brain tumor that arises in or around the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain. As the tumor progresses, it presses on the optic nerve, causing a child’s vison to worsen. Sydney has faced several hardships at a young age, and truly deserved to have something in her life that would help ease her distress. It was at this point that Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida stepped in to grant Sydney a wish!
Sydney was met by two incredible Wish Granters who came to her home to discuss what her heartfelt wish would be. Since Sydney loves dogs, it was no surprise that she would be granted a wish to receive a puppy of her dreams. Sydney couldn’t have just any puppy, she wanted to have a puppy that would fit in perfectly with her lifestyle. She decided that she wanted a Cavapoo Puppy. A Cavapoo is an adorable breed that is a great for kids. They are known to be playful, energetic, and affectionate which is exactly what Sydney is looking for. Another benefit of this specific breed, is that they are easy to train, which Sydney was looking forward to!
Sydney and her family arrived to take her new puppy to her forever home. They had an appointment to meet two potential Cavapoo Puppies that Sydney would choose from. Sydney had the opportunity to spend private play time with both puppies so she could determine which puppy she truly loved the most. After careful consideration, Sydney finally made a decision, and was ready to take home her new fluffy friend.
This wish is something that Sydney and her family will never forget. Sydney will continue to battle through her condition with renewed strength derived from the hope and joy the wish experience brought to her and her family. A wish is more than a nice thing, a wish brings joy to critically ill children that gives them an edge in conquering their illnesses.
