Rose's wish to have a Harry Potter themed bedroom makeover

Rose is a sweet, kindhearted 13-year-old who has been battling Cancer for the last year. Her diagnosis has forced her to spend lots of time inside to avoid germs and infections from the outside world. While most children would view this limitation as a disadvantage, Rose saw it as an opportunity…an opportunity to discover her talents and passions. She found a love for drawing to explore her creativity, reading to escape reality, and writing to express herself. Rose found a way to bring the sunshine indoors with her radiant smile and genuine love for life. She has so much fun dancing and singing to Taylor Swift’s upbeat music and lounging on the couch for a movie night. She loves to binge watch the television show, Glee and watch anything Harry Potter related. Some of her favorites include playing the board game; Life, eating chicken tenders with ranch at Outback, and delving into a delicious vanilla cake. Her love for Harry Potter inspired her to wish for a Harry Potter themed room makeover. She had always dreamt of having her room renovated into her favorite Hogwart’s House, “Ravenclaw.” Her wish would allow her to continue to bring the light, hope and magical healing indoors.

On June 22nd, Rose experienced a day that she will never forget. As she waited impatiently on the other side of her door, her friends, family and volunteers counted down for the official reveal. As she opened the door she was in awe of the magic around her. She simply could not contain her excitement and gratitude. In this moment, nothing else mattered except for Rose’s joy and ear to ear smile. Her custom designed, Ravenclaw room was unbelievable and left Rose in tears. Her room was unrecognizable, filled with a new bedding, desk, television, shelving, mirrors and wall decals. The local Lowe’s in New Port Richey not only donated a ton of supplies, paint and carpet but also had their generous volunteers help assemble everything with the Make-A-Wish volunteers on reveal day. Aside from getting new furniture, the volunteers personalized the room with Ravenclaw paint colors and infinite amount of Harry Potter accessories that were special to Rose. She adored the Ravenclaw robe and scarf that matched her pillows and the pennant flag. By her bedside was a Ravenclaw journal with a Harry Potter feather pen for her to draw and write down her wildest dreams. Her room wouldn’t have been complete without the Holly interactive wand and Luna lovegood wand placed in the beautiful wand holders. Her new bed tied together everything that this room meant to Rose with its Hogwarts Castle Frame and Harry Potter quote above it. The quote read, “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Now, Rose gets to go to sleep every night and wake up every morning with the reminder that she is stronger than her illness and has the power to find happiness, love, laughter and joy in each battle she encounters. To say Rose is an inspiration is an understatement. Her passion and fun loving personality inspired all those involved in her wish experience to embody Rose’s positive outlook in their everyday lives. Rose, once again, brought more sunshine and love into the walls of her home as her wish became the most exciting reality she could have ever dreamt of.
