Law Offices of Kinney, Fernandez & Boire Presented Annual Wishmaker’s Ball
Event Raised Over $205,000 for Children with Life-threatening Medical Conditions
Tampa, FL (March 31, 2014) – Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida held its 5th Annual Wishmaker’s on March 29, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay. The evening featured a red carpet theme and honored Aggie and Manny Fernandez as the organization’s Wishmaker’s of the Year.
“I would like to recognize two very special people for their generosity in helping us to grant the wishes of so many of our local children over the past 5 years,” said Make-A-Wish advisory board chair, David Pearlman. “Manny and Aggie Fernandez have given more than $105,000 to Make-A-Wish through the Law Offices of Kinney, Fernandez and Boire and over the years, and helped us raise another $300,000 through their influence in the Tampa Bay community.”
The hosts for the evening, Cyndi Edwards and Jerry Penacoli from News Channel 8’s Daytime welcomed 400 guests at the light-hearted and luxurious event. Ball attendees heard and witnessed the talent of Joe Ginem, a 24-year-old wish alumnus who was touched by the power of a wishâ at age 16 when he wished to have his own professional-quality violin. Joe graced the audience with a powerful performance and shared the importance of his wish and his desire to continue to play even though he was facing the harsh reality of a deadly cancer, osteosarcoma. “Every day during treatment, I would wake up knowing that I was one day closer to getting that violin and it kept me going,” said Joe.
“The Wishmaker’s Ball was a great success measured by both the enthusiasm of the guests and the generosity of local businesses and community leaders,” said Marcus Fernandez, Ball Chairperson, Make-A-Wish advisory board member and attorney at Kinney, Fernandez & Boire, P.A., the evenings presenting sponsor. The event doubled the proceeds from last year and had a record-setting night for the Make-A-Wish chapter, with $80,000 raised in one evening.
Proceeds from the 5th annual Wishmaker’s Ball, totaling $205,000, will help grant approximately 30 wishes in the Tampa Bay area, including Hillsborough, Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas & Polk counties. Key sponsors of the event also included Moreno Joseph Spine & Scoliosis, Syniverse, Radiographic Consultants, Avison Young, UnitedHealthcare, and PNC Bank. Many other wishes are available for sponsorship.
